ITIL Managing Professional Transition Version 5 Course Guide

Key Takeaways

  • This transition route serves four eligible advanced designation groups, listed below.
  • It combines updated learning across Product, Service, Experience and Transformation.
  • Both required exams must be passed; their question counts and durations differ.
  • PassionIT Group offers a five-day live virtual cohort with official materials and both exam vouchers.

ITIL Managing Professional Transition (Version 5) gives eligible advanced ITIL designation holders a focused route to update their knowledge and achieve ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5). It requires approved training and two exams, building on expertise you already have.

You have already put significant work into your ITIL qualifications. Your next course should help you understand what has changed and connect it to the decisions you make at work. This guide explains eligibility, learning topics, assessments, and how PassionIT Group supports your transition.

Who Is Eligible for ITIL Managing Professional Transition Version 5

PeopleCert accepts any one of these designations.

  • ITIL 4 Managing Professional
  • ITIL 4 Master
  • ITIL v3 Expert
  • ITIL v3 Master

An ITIL 4 Foundation certificate alone does not meet this advanced-route prerequisite. Before enrolling, identify the designation on your certification record and ask us to check the appropriate route if you are uncertain.

For a Foundation-level update, our ITIL Foundation Bridge course may be a better fit for eligible ITIL 4 holders. The Bridge leads to a Foundation credential, while Managing Professional Transition addresses advanced designation holders.

What Is the ITIL Managing Professional Transition Course

The course brings the Version 5 updates into a structured learning path for experienced professionals. PeopleCert’s FAQ describes coverage that introduces the updated foundational concepts and connects them with Product, Service, Experience and Transformation guidance.

For you, the useful question is how those areas connect. A product decision affects service performance. Service performance affects customer experience. Improving any of them may require changes to responsibilities, priorities or governance. The course gives you an opportunity to examine those relationships with your existing experience in mind.

What Will You Learn in the ITIL Version 5 Transition Course

Product Management Across the Lifecycle

The Product guidance connects digital products, services and business outcomes across their lifecycle. It emphasizes value streams, product direction and evidence-based decisions.

Bring a product or application your team knows well. Consider where work becomes difficult: prioritization, supplier coordination, release readiness or support. A familiar example helps you turn an abstract model into a discussion about a real handoff.

Service Performance and Stakeholder Outcomes

The Service guidance addresses relationships, service quality, resilience and continual improvement. It connects service performance with what customers and other stakeholders need to achieve.

For a service leader, that may prompt a useful review: are your team’s measures showing whether the service helps people do their work, or only how many tasks the team completed?

Digital Experience and Trust

The Experience guidance examines how people respond to digital interactions, including their perceptions, expectations and trust. It considers experience across the lifecycle and the different perspectives of stakeholders.

Think of a system that meets its technical targets but still frustrates users. Examining that situation can reveal where numerical measures need to be considered alongside feedback and observation.

Transformation and Sustainable Change

Transformation guidance covers how organizations initiate, govern, execute and learn from change. It links the ITIL Transformation Model with measurement, improvement and responsible AI adoption.

You can use that perspective to challenge an improvement proposal before implementation: what should change, who needs to participate, and how will we know whether the result is useful?

Which Exams Are Required

PeopleCert requires both assessments. They can be scheduled separately and taken in either order.

Required exam

Questions

Standard time

ITIL Managing Professional Transition – Product, Service, Experience (Version 5)

60

120 minutes

ITIL Transformation (Version 5)

40

90 minutes

Both exams are open book, multiple choice and have a 70% pass mark. That is 42 correct answers out of 60 for Product, Service, Experience and 28 out of 40 for Transformation.

Open book still requires preparation. Practice finding the relevant guidance, interpreting a scenario and explaining your decision. Use the permitted materials and exam instructions supplied for your assessment.

What Qualification Will You Earn

For ITIL 4 Managing Professionals and ITIL v3 Expert or Master holders, successful completion leads to ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5) and the ITIL Transformation certification. ITIL v3 Masters still need the Version 5 Practice Manager and Strategic Leader designations to achieve ITIL Master (Version 5).

PeopleCert describes a broader outcome for existing ITIL 4 Masters: completion upgrades their Managing Professional, Practice Manager and Strategic Leader designations, resulting in ITIL Master (Version 5). Your starting designation therefore matters when planning the outcome.

How PassionIT Group Helps You Prepare

Our five-day Live Online cohort brings the learning into a scheduled virtual format. The published package includes official materials and eBooks, both required exam vouchers and Take2 re-sit protection. Check the current booking details and applicable terms when choosing your cohort.

Use class discussion to connect the guidance with the situations you manage. You might bring a recurring coordination issue, an improvement proposal or questions about how experience evidence should influence service decisions. Those examples give the instructor a concrete starting point for explanation.

Planning Training for Your Organization

PassionIT Group also lists corporate training with flexible scheduling, on-site or virtual delivery and volume options. Contact us to discuss the eligible professionals in your team and the outcomes you want the training to support.

How to Prepare for Your Transition Course

  • Confirm the exact designation on your PeopleCert record before booking.
  • Set aside time for the cohort and for review of the official materials.
  • Choose a workplace example to connect with each learning area.
  • Plan for two separate assessments and check the instructions for each.

The goal is to update your understanding in a way you can explain and use. When a concept feels familiar, ask what has changed and what that change means for a decision you would make.
